Museo Paleontologico "Luigi Boldrini" di Pietrafitta — Attraction in Piegaro

Fascinating little museum. The incredible finds are all local, found during the lignite mining at Pietrafitta. You can tell your children that those mammoths used to walk right where they are standing now! It is a great human story too, as the finds are here for us to learn from as a result of the passion of one enthusiastic amateur. There is a reasonable amount of written information in English, and there were two knowledgeable guides who spoke pretty good English too. Nelle vicinanze del lago Trasimeno e a pochi km da Perugia, non può mancare una sosta a Pietrafitta per visitare anche il museo paleontologico Luigi Boldrini. Lasciati alle spalle i girasoli e la centrale Enel, poco al di sotto del paese, l'edificio chiaro e tondo del museo spunta come un fungo al centro di un'area che offre un ampio parcheggio. La guida che vi  accoglie all'ingresso vi accompagnerà lungo una linea del tempo con spiegazioni dense e interessanti,  chiare e fruibili da varie fasce di età, ma non solo: l'esposizione  è ogni volta puntualmente adeguata, per linguaggio e per contenuto, ai componenti del gruppo in visita. Ascoltare le informazioni avendo di fronte i resti fossili di un rinoceronte, oppure le zanne e i denti dell'elefante preistorico, aiuta ad immaginare le paludi di un tempo, i boschi, le lotte degli animali per la sopravvivenza.... In tal modo si imprimono nella memoria tante  informazioni che forse si studiano a scuola, ma poi irrimediabilmente si perdono col trascorrere del tempo.  Il percorso è strutturato rispettando l'ordine cronologico, non mancano spazi, adatti ai più giovani, anche con dispositivi  che prevedono l'uso di un braccialetto interattivo (scelto in base all'età), attraverso il quale si possono ascoltare ancora spiegazioni adeguate all'utilizzatore. How amazing the history behind this place is! It was one of the places most well organized and informative I visited on this trip! The staff is very friendly. The space is not big and opens on weekends, price is fair, collection is so well preserved and there’s so many information about if that you may stay there for hours! Great for kids!
