Reservations for the guided tour are absolutely mandatory and the Hearonymus app guides tour in the preferred language is also outstanding. A wonderful insight into the industrial side of copper mining in Ahrntal. Starting in the incredible year of 1400 in Ahrntal there is so much history of this strenuous side of the mountain life. They also offer an ‘Escape the world’ program - people with respiratory problems spend two hours for two weeks here at the constant temperature of 8pm. You are going to get cold even though it is 30oc outside; you’re deep into the mountain so pack appropriately. The entrance area has very clean toilet facilities and the staff are very professional and guest centered. There is a gift shop for souvenirs. We did it with 3 adults and 5 kids under 12 years old and everyone enjoyed the experience. A great few hours...

Getting here isn't easy and the guide wasn''t that enthusiastic that we did (or maybe his enthusiasm was cramped by the mask he was wearing) but it's still interesting to ride a tiny train into the center of an enormous mountain and learn how copper and steel have influenced this part of Alto Adige since before anyone can remember.

Visitors are equipped with yellow helmets and raincoats that put us immediately into a mining mood but did little to keep us warm in passages which felt just barely above freezing and made us appreciate the difficult life minors faced throughout every epoch. The visit lasts an hour and we were glad to see the light and feel summer warmth again. There's a small museum with free rocks and postcards along with a small cafe. Visitare questa miniera è stata un'esperienza molto interessante. Davvero istruttiva. La guest card fornitaci dall'hotel Anabel, dove abbiamo soggiornato, ci ha permesso di visitare gratuitamente la miniera. Il costo del biglietto si aggira intorno ai 13,00 euro che avremmo pagato anche volentieri perché la visita lì merita davvero tutti. La visita è adatta anche ai bambini. La struttura fornisce impermeabile e caschetto che sono obbligatori da indossare. All'interno della miniera c'è una temperatura costante di 8 gradi, per cui consigliano un abbigliamento consono. La visita dura 1h,15. Si percorre un tratto col trenino all'interno della montagna, circa 10 minuti, e poi si prosegue a piedi. Siamo stati accompagnati da Peter, la nostra guida, che ha saputo catturare la nostra attenzione raccontandoci la storia della miniera, il lavoro dei minatori, illustrandoci la loro vita in maniera scrupolosa e attenta, così come le loro condizioni economiche e di salute. I rischi che correvano, dalla caduta dei massi, al crollo di una volta, al maneggiare esplosivi, al respirare polveri nocive. Peter mi ha fatto usare anche punta e mazzetta ... È stata un'esperienza soprattutto emozionante. Se penso a queste persone, alle loro dure condizioni di lavoro, alla precarietà delle loro condizioni di salute, ai sacrifici, alle loro famiglie ... non mi lamentero' più del mio lavoro.
