The Sesto Dolomites Natural Park is not only known for its great variety of plants and animals, but also for the famous Three Peaks. It covers an area of 11,635 hectares, including the towns of Sesto, San Candido and Dobbiaco, to the north-eastern part of the Dolomites, the Landro Valley and the border with the province of Belluno Established in 1981, the natural park covers the eastern part of South Tyrol. Surely the most famous peaks that fall into this protected area are the Top Eleven (3,092 m), Mount Popera (3,046 m asl), the Twelve Peak (3,094 m), Mount Paterno (2,744 m above sea level) and the only and impressive Three Peaks (2,999 m above sea level), those that give the name to the natural park. And propsito: The Sesto Dolomites represent a part of the Dolomites and are therefore part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

The park is characterized by the presence of rocks and heaps of debris and serves as a habitat to many pioneer plants, among which the potentilla persicina, the yellow achilllea, crocuses and campanula of the mountain. Embraced is the Natural Park Dolomiti di Sesto especially in the eastern part by a mountainous landscape, with bright meadows in larch, but also by forests of fir trees and stone pines. animals characteristic of these mountain forests are the great spotted woodpecker, the black woodpecker, the boreal owl as well as roe deer. But the undisputed queen of the mountains here is also the golden eagle. The protected area includes only a lake of a certain size, the lake of Landro in the valley. Notable, however, are also the various small lakes such as Lake Malga di Mezzo or...

Beautiful, breathtaking, astounding etc. I'm not going to expend on that.

To go up there, 2 options (accessible by bus, car and bike)

Free option : Reaching the lodge situated a bit lower down the mountain (by car, bike or local and tour buses) and walking to the viewpoint (≈ 1h30 hike, not for beginners hikers, the elevation gain is a bit much). You can circle the top in 3h hours (mid-tier hike the beginning is alright but the second half of the trail is confusing and hard to find) There are also special rented bikes that have stations up the viewpoint.

Paying option : Drive to the lodge previously mentioned and buy the ticket to drive directly to the viewpoint (30€ for a normal 5 seaters car but a bit more for bigger vehicles). THIS OPTION IS REALLY POPULAR SO ARRIVE EARLY !!! We arrived at 8h and there was already a bit of a queue and when we went down at 13h, it was worst (1h of queue ? Around that). Same thing for circling the top, but you'll be less tired with his option. There are also tour buses that can drop you off at the viewpoint and the price of the crossing is included in the tour price.

Either way if you want to hike a bit around, be prepared for the lack of oxygen high up. And be in a good physical condition overall (and not be afraid...

Parco Naturale Tre Cime is an absolute gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts! The stunning landscapes, with the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo peaks, are a sight to behold. The trails are well-maintained and offer various levels of difficulty, making it accessible for both casual hikers and seasoned trekkers.

I particularly enjoyed the panoramic views that seemed to stretch endlessly, providing countless photo opportunities. The fresh mountain air and the serene atmosphere made the experience even more refreshing and rejuvenating.

The park is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, adding to its natural beauty. The facilities, including rest areas and informational signs, were well-organized and helpful. I appreciated the efforts in preserving the natural environment while making it accessible for visitors.

Overall, Parco Naturale Tre Cime is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting the region. It offers a perfect blend of adventure, tranquility, and breathtaking scenery. Highly...

Save + Share this bucket list destination in Italy: 📍The Dolomites While Rome is great, make sure to add a stop in the Italian Dolomites to your itinerary — I promise that it’s worth it. Here are a few tips to help plan your visit: 1. The best way to get here is by car. We flew into Venice, rented a car at the airport, and drove about 2.5 hours. It is possible to take the train or bus but requires a number of transfers which will greatly lengthen journey time. 2. Lago di Braies is found in the South Tyrol region of Italy, which is known for its clean air, gorgeous Alpine Lakes, and amazing hiking. The altitude is higher in the region so mornings and evenings can be chilly, even in the summer. 3. May and June are the ideal months to visit— the snow has melted by then and the number of tourists is still relatively low. 4. There is loads to do in the immediate area so plan to stay at least three nights! At Lago di Braies you can rent canoes (though they are deceptively difficult to steer) for about 30 euros/hour. There are a number of great, easy-moderate hikes in the area such as Tre Cime de Lavaredo as well. 5. Accommodation can be pricy and not particularly nice (think: “rustic”) so book well in advance! However, the clip with the alpacas in this video is from the Chalet Al Foss, which is bucket list hotel due to its views, amenities, and furry friends. We also stayed at the Hotel Trenker for 3 nights. 6. This region of Italy used to be a part of Austria so German, not Italian, is spoken predominantly here! While you can get around with just English, my German skills were really put to the test lol. Have you ever been to Italy? SAVE THIS for your Italian Dolomites trip in 2023!👇🏼🇮🇹 - Explore the meadows of Alpe De Suis / Seiser Alm - Hike the Seceda trail (4hrs one way!) or get the gondola into the clouds 2500m above sea level - Explore the town of Ortisei, we recommend eating at Mauriz Keller! - Visit Lago Di Braies at sunset, one of the most famous and beautiful lakes in the Dolomites - Attempt the 4 hour loop hike track at Tre Cime Di Laveredo (it’s worth it, we promise!) - Hike the Cadini Di Misurina trail for incredible views, in our opinion one of the best hikes! Only 45mins from the car park! Follow @twosometravellers for more travel content! 👈🏼 #dolomiti #dolomites #italianalps #visititaly #travelreels #dolomitesitaly #reelstravel
