Flying in the Sky — Attraction in Rocca Massima

Our family of four (two adults, one teenager and one tween) visited on Easter Monday. We had booked for two doubles but due to weight requirements, we had to fly as two singles and one double. My teenager is fearless and went first - she enjoyed it but didn't think it was exhilarating enough. My husband and our 12 year old daughter went next, they loved it. She was very nervous before the flight but excited, and found it less scary than a rollercoaster. I was not keen to go as a single and almost backed out (frankly the whole concept was super scary for me but I thought I would cope in a double). As I was trying to decide whether to go or not, my husband asked the guy at the end if he could use the walkie talkie to call the guy at the start, to tell me it was OK! They let him and so I decided to go...I was not at all composed and the staff member hooking me up to the line was very kind and patient with me. The experience was not as bad as I expected! When I was at the top platform looking at the cable running down into the valley, I thought it looked very steep and that it would be very scary and super fast due to the slope...it did not feel as if I was travelling at 150kmph, and the slope was not as scary when I actually left the platform (although I did close my eyes for a bit). There is a bit of a jolt at the end but overall a lot less scary than I thought it would be. ...

The flying itself was really good and would recommend. However, I give three stars as we felt that the communication between them and us was lacking when we tried to organise a shuttle from Veletri. Many of our emails went unanswered, and no pick up time (or cost) was stated so we ended up waiting at Veletri train station for nearly an hour and a half. Also the cost was not stated, we found this out on arrival (10€ each round trip, which is reasonable, but wouldve been good to know up front). I wasn't deployed properly, but the safety rope caught me (thank god for safety!) leaving me dangling about 2 metres from the platform. However, I thought the staff handled this pretty professionally, were really reassuring, and they dragged me back to the platform before they sent me down. Would still do it...

It's a very exciting thing to do although I have a fear of highs so I haven't gotten on it myself. My daughter absolutely loved it. Everything was very well organized, nice and smooth. It's very busy so I'd recommend booking a slot online in advance (you only pay for the admin fee) and when you arrive you sort everything else out. If you change your mind it's not a problem. They also have an option for you to rent a camera that will record your fly which we did and that was fantastic as we could see how it went for our daughter and seeing her reaction was priceless. You just get the memory card at the end which is hassle free. It's worth mentioning that they are closed between 2-4pm, I think it's not on...
