The climb to the highest point in Asti province is strictly for the able-bodied. In places the stairs are substituted by ladders that are nearly vertical: however, there are handrails everywhere, so it is perfectly safe. On the way there are excellent information displays in Italian, English and German that explain the background and history of the tower and its surroundings. Among other things, you learn that the tower was built in 1255: its continued existence is a testament to the lack of earthquakes in the region.

The view from the top is amazing and very much worth the a little bit adventurous ascent. The grocery store opposite the post office provides fresh sandwiches (panini) with fresh cheese and prosciutto (just Italian but very easy going, just try it!), fruits and beverages.
