First I am a garden lover, We have visited many famous garden around Europe, this visit is a disappointment, the garden are lack of color, water feature and layer, the design of the garden are really missing some core elements, what a waste for such place it could have big potential.
Am I being too critical ? No if I am pay 44 euro I do expect experience such as Villa d'Este in Italy ,Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in France , Quinta da Regaleira at Portugal, Flor og Fjære in Norway. And many many beautiful garden are much cheaper or free
The guide tour spend lot of time talking family history and change of ownership many times, and family took over work little bit there and little bit there, the garden itself are very boring not too much to see and experience. really the problem of the garden is lack on consistency in the history and missing good garden designer to bring it’s beauty.
If you never visited top class garden as I mentioned above, you might like it but still you spend the whole afternoon and 44euro not too much to see and waste of time, I am surprised why it got such high review. For me 2-3 star maximum.
If you have visited those top class garden above you know what I am...
Read moreThis is only a short review due to the fact I only circumnavigated the Giardino dell’Isola del Garda whilst passing by on a boat. I did not access the island itself.
As you approach, the beauty and significance of this place becomes apparent. It was a glorious day and as a result the stunning gardens and buildings really stood out.
The island boasts a most important Venetian neo-Gothic style villa built in the nineteenth century which is adorned with Italian and English hanging gardens and a centuries-old park. The once active Monastery is stunning, and I’m sure if you go ashore the island to truly experience everything this place has to offer you would have a wonderful time.
I’d recommend visiting the official website for more details and this can be found...
Read moreWe have spend already several holidays at Lago Di Garda and this was our very first visit (by boat) to the island. We had the pleasure to have Alberta (English guide and co-owner of the island) explaining us the history of the island and how her family inherited the island and is maniging it now. The island, his gardens and the beautifull buildings are a must see and visit. There are several ports where you can take the boat to the island and have a guided tour. Best is to reserve your seat in advance. We recommend...
