Il Parco del Matese è il paradiso degli escursionisti e degli sportivi: mountainbike, trekking, sci d‘erba e alpino, deltaplano, ma anche passeggiate a cavallo e escursioni speleologiche.

Il territorio del Matese è costituito da una catena di monti prevalentemente calcarei situati tra Molise e Campania. E’ un territorio ricco di luoghi selvaggi, popolati da Lupi e Aquile reali, paesaggi dolci, con laghi dalle acque azzurre in cui si specchiano le cime delle montagne, centri storici originali e ottimamente conservati, tanta storia, fatta anche dei rapporti sempre tesi tra Romani e Sanniti, prodotti tipici genuini, unici e saporiti.

Il Parco Regionale del Matese offre molteplici occasioni di vivere appieno il rapporto genuino e sincero con la natura, la cultura, le tradizioni e i diversi ambienti che lo caratterizzano. È  è un'area naturale protetta della Campania istituita con la legge regionale n. 33 del 1993. È entrato in funzione solamente nel 2002. Il parco si estende su una superficie di 33.326,53 ettari.

Il parco del Matese è stato istituito con legge regionale della Campania n. 33 del 1º settembre 1993 dal titolo "Istituzione di parchi e riserve naturali in Campania".

A causa della mancata approvazione delle norme attuative della legge regionale n. 33 del 1993, il parco è entrato in funzione solo nell'anno 2002. La norma di riferimento è la delibera di Giunta regionale della Campania n. 1407 del 12 aprile 2002.

Dal 2006 l'ente parco regionale del Matese ha sede in San Potito Sannitico, in provincia di Caserta. Primo presidente del parco è stato Giuseppe Scialla, docente universitario e ambientalista.

A seguito della revisione della legge italiana di bilancio 2018 è stata approvata la norma che contempla la futura trasformazione del parco del Matese in parco nazionale, con probabile coinvolgimento delle province...
