It is in the north of the country in the Val Camonica area, near the cities of Brescia and Bergamo. The lake is almost equally divided between the Provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. Northern Italy is known for its heavily industrialised towns and in between there are several natural lakes. Lake Iseo retains its natural environment, with its lush green mountains surrounding the crystal clear lake.

There are several medieval towns around the lake, the largest being Iseo and Sarnico. A notable tourism sector has emerged.

A road has been carved into the side of the mountains that circumnavigates the entire lake.

In the middle of the lake there are Montisola island, Loreto isle and San Paolo isle (which compound the Monte Isola municipality). There is easy access via the regular running lake ferries.

The Floating Piers, an art installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, was open to the public at Lake Iseo for 16 days in June and July 2016.

Since 2018, the northern portion of the lake (called Alto Sebino) is part of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve of "Valle Camonica -...

Lake Iseo, Italian Lago D’iseo, Latin Lacus Sebinus, lake in Lombardia(Lombardy) region, northern Italy, between Bergamo and Bresciaprovinces, at the southern foot of the Alps at an altitude of 610 feet (186 m).

The lake is 15.5 miles (25 km) long with a maximum width of 3 miles (5 km), a maximum depth of 820 feet (250 m), and a surface area of 24 square miles (62 square km). It is fed by the Oglio River, a tributary of the Po River, which enters the northern end near Lovere from the deep, wide Val (valley) Camonica and leaves the southern end at Sarnico.

Monte Isola, in the centre of the lake, is Italy’s largest lacustrine island (area 5 square miles [13 square km]); it rises to 1,965 feet (599 m) and is crowned by a chapel. The islet of San Paolo, south of Monte Isola, is occupied by the buildings of a small disused Franciscan convent, and that of Loreto, north, has a ruined chapel...

Beautiful town of Sale Marasino...... on the eastern shore of Lago d’Iseo.....go there out of season..... very quiet.... just the best scenery in Italy( none better) no crowds.... not many visitors ...... excellent scenic ferry service on the lake and Regular reliable train a short ride to to Brescia...... Great pub with excellent food and drinks... yes it’s called an Irish Pub but it is so, so so, northern Italy... you won’t regret going and staying a while. .. And consider Brescia as a destination also...... yet another great Piedmont Italian city with excellent old town and we would argue , the best Relics and museum in the...

Our recent visit to Lago d’Iseo was nothing short of enchanting. Nestled amidst breathtakingly picturesque surroundings, this hidden gem offers a perfect blend of serene lakeside beauty and majestic mountain landscapes. The local restaurants were exceptional, serving delicious regional cuisine with charm and authenticity, truly a culinary delight at every turn. Yet, perhaps the most memorable aspect was the warmth and genuine friendliness of the local people, whose hospitality made our experience utterly delightful. Lago d’Iseo is undoubtedly a treasure; we look forward eagerly to our next visit!
