A note regarding the access road and heights inside the cave
I mainly wanted to write this review to highlight two concerns I noticed popping up in the reviews and questions. Firstly, the narrow and winding access road to the cave has been broadened as of late July 2022, making the ascent and descent less nerve-racking. Secondly, the cave offers three tours (one, two and three hours long), each increasing in height traversal and steepness. I have an above average fear of heights and we took the two hour tour. This offers a fairly steep descent down a zigzagging stone staircase with only some low metal bars for support. I was pretty nervous. I’m told the three hour tour is even steeper, so keep that in mind. While not as stunning or massive as the French Aven Armand cave, it’s nonetheless a varied and interesting cave. It offers a variety of speleothems (stalagmites, stalactites, columns, draperies and flowstones). We had two fine guides, both native English speakers. All in all, I would definitely...
Read moreGreat experience, highly recommended. Did the 2 hour trip, 3 hour is probably best to get the most out of the trip. Very motivated and energic guide. The road up is not for the faint of heart - very narrow and winding up through some spectacular hillsides. Make sure to have more time than Google maps tell you, cause stops, roadworks and Italian traffic will be a potential showstopper when you have to make it to the specified time for the tour. A small coffee shop with some snacks at the ticket office, and a small simple restaurant across the parking area. Parking on a open area just in front of the ticket office, could not work out the meter (maybe it only accepts cash). When you are done, make sure to go back on a different route, choose the panoramic road that starts from the parking area and winds a little further upwards, and do some stops along the road (you will end up back at the main road further...
Read moreWe weren’t going to go here due to lack of time. But. Then we found the time. And I’m glad we did. Came here on a quiet September Thursday. Half expecting it to be closed (which it definitely wasn’t). But we were lucky to get in a tour with mostly English speakers, so the guide spoke English (perfectly). And gave headsets to the two german people with us (native Italian speakers went on a separate tour right behind us). It was great. We got the 1 hour tour, but at the halfway mark, we decided to continue with the 2 hour tour (that goes down down down). I highly recommend the 2 hour tour, otherwise you would miss a ton, most of the really cool stuff (the bottom water, silt structures, etc). Don’t touch anything. 7 Euro for 1 hour tour, 12 Euro for the two hours. (FYI-The 3 hour tours is pretty much...
