A truly enchanting spot in Val d’Orcia – the Cipressi di San Quirico d’Orcia are everything you’ve dreamed of and more. Driving up the Cassia (SS2) and spotting the iconic group of cypress trees is like stepping into a painting. We parked at the roadside lay-by and took a short walk along the trail to reach the grove — the views are absolutely timeless.
We stayed to watch the sunset, and it was magical. As the sun dipped behind the Tuscan hills, the sky turned gold and pink, casting long shadows over the fields. The cypresses stood silhouetted against the fading light — it was peaceful, cinematic, and completely unforgettable.
Don’t miss the hidden circular grove of cypresses just beyond the main group — a quieter, almost meditative spot only a few minutes’ walk away. It’s less crowded and equally stunning.
📸 Highlights: • Easy access and parking off the main road • Perfect for golden hour photography or quiet reflection • Ideal spot to soak in the beauty of the Tuscan countryside
🚗 Tips: • Sunset is the best time to visit — fewer crowds, better light • Wear comfortable shoes if you’re walking up to the circular grove • Bring water and maybe a blanket if you want to sit and relax
In summary: A must-see stop in Tuscany. Whether you’re into photography, nature, or just looking for a moment of beauty and stillness, this is a place that...

An absolute must see when you are travelling to Tuscany and, specifically, to the province of Siena; in particular the southern part of the province. One of the most instagrammed locations and a symbol of Tuscany. Very close to San Quirico d’Orcia and nestled on a hill. These cypresses are visible from the main road SR 2 that connects Montalcino to San Quirico on the right end side (geographical coordinates 43°03’45,62” N ; 11°33’31,86” E) but don’t miss to visit another group of cypresses just at the top of the same hill which you cannot see very easily from the main road. So be ready to park your car wherever you can and climb the hill to see these 2 stunning and unforgettable locations. When you look at the first group of cypresses from the main road you can see at the top right corner the second group of cypresses, but you need to climb the small hill to see the second group properly. There is another road that can take you to the 2 locations from the opposite side of the hill but it requires you to drive offroad for a few hundred meters so not super easy. Amazing location. Strongly recommended. At sunset it must be incredibly beautiful. #Tuscany #Toscana #cipressi...

Directions and parking tips:
There are two cypress tree circles. The one in the field is easily accessible from The SR2 road, there is a small area to pull up however it gets full. (You’ll see them from the road).
If you want to view trees which aren’t in the field (which I preferred), it’s best to follow the Google maps directions all the way to where it takes you (free parking, 2-4 minute walk thereafter).
Both are a must see if you are in or around D’Orcia in my opinion. If you were to park at Google’s end point, you can also walk a further two minutes past the first circle you come to, to get a view of the circle which is in the field too. (Not as a good an angle as walking to that one from the SR2 pull up point however).
We visited Sunday early Sep- 6:30pm, it was very quiet. 2 or 3 other groups there. Good lighting.
First 2 images show the circle which is on a dirt road (best IMO), 3rd image shows the field circle from the angle approached by walking from the first circle (not the best angle, best from the...
