We stayed in the Rifugio Teodulo during our 9-day hike of the Tour de Monte Rosa. While accommodations varied quite a bit over our trip, only this hut inspired us to write a review.||||The good: The hut itself is lovely -- it's thoughtfully done in both the public spaces and the rooms, and it has a giant glass wall overlooking the valley. We hired the father of the (absent) proprietor to guide us across the glacier -- a charming and competent older mountaineer, he was a highlight of our trek!'||||The bad: The price is notably higher than the norm (70-90 euros half-board), yet many aspects are subpar compared to other huts: Athough there's a nice bathroom next to the sleeping room, it's for staff only while guests are relegated to two footstep toilets in the basement; wifi is also for staff only; there are no showers (at least for guests); food was unremarkable; the hut was manned by a pair of 20-somethings who were far more interested in looking at their phones and watching videos than serving the guests.||||Some Tour de Monte Rosa hikers choose to descend to Cervinia for the night rather than stay in the Theodulhutte. Read moreThe best shelter I've been to in recent years, it's like a sentimental journey to the old days, when shelters had their actual function and weren't hotels. I'm extremely grateful to Mr. Zbyszek and the entire staff for welcoming us so kindly, even when there was no room. You don't find shelters like that anymore. We'll be back soon.
