Read moreI really like Lido Island. There are cars on the island. To take your car there you have to go by ferry. There is also public bus transportation which is included in the vaporeto boat fees that shuttle people between the islands. The public buses are a good way to see the whole island. There are a couple different bus routes. The island is quite long and narrow. There are nice modern residential areas on the island with beautiful large homes. The residential area is mainly along the length of the long island and the commercial town is in the wider part of the island by the vaporeto boat terminal. Many people that work in Venice live here on Lido. For people who work in Venice, Lido has a laid back vacation feel to it. There is a good film festival and other events every year at the Bienalle Di Venezia on Lido. In May 2020 there is an International Architecture exhibition with very outstanding architects attending. The Venice Carnival is coming up in Venice in February and it is world famous. The beach for the Venice area is on Lido. Some of the beach infrastructure got water in it during the high tides on Nov 2019 and repairs are being made for the summer beach season. The Island has a low key relaxed type attitude to it, different from the hustle and bustle around San Marco square and other parts in Venice...
Read moreThe lido (beach part) was an easy walk (20-30 mins)from the waterbus stop. We got to Blue Moon beach and saw the eye watering entry price (€18 per person, towels etc could be I think but someone else may be able to verify) and decided to follow the free beach signs instead. At the free beach there was a desk for towel, chairs and parasol hire. There were 6 of us (4 adults and 2 small children) so we asked for 2 parasols and 5 or 6 chairs. We were told no we were t allowed two parasols and no we weren’t allowed that many chairs. When we asked why she didn’t explain and shrugged us off even though we were paying for all of this with the steep deposits. We had to negotiate just to get one parasol and three chairs. It was such a hot day and we didn’t have a great time as most of us adults sat in the blazing sun with not much shade. For the price we paid to use the facilities here (toilets and changing room use cost extra) and the inconvenience we did think we should have paid to go to Blue Moon as at least we would have got everything we needed by paying and it probably wasn’t much different in price. The beach was also less packed. Otherwise the beach was clean and the water was really warm. The kids had a great time in the water and in the...
