This beach was wonderful in the night air, the sceneries are spectacular, and there is even a water slide, a basket ball court, plenty of areas swim and do beach stuff, changing rooms, bath rooms , clean , and even life guards, and now some days live music, love the food shops especially the jerk area, and the Devon house ice cream area is a pleasant experience the staff there from the guard to the cashier and the lady who serve the ice cream was great.seats are a wonderful addition, like a stroll in the park in the night light lovers sit on benches or sit in the sand on the beach, light conversion, lovely whispers all around. what attest to the safety of this beach is the fact that there was a lot of mothers with there children even babies there in the park after sunset. The parking is nice, but I can imagine if there is a crowd the parking will be lacking and the narrow road in and out will be congested. In the evening rats came scurrying by, searching for food, exciting the boys to men, while girls to ladies shrieks to giggles or set to run then calm as the rats dart back under beautiful flora. Many people there was relaxing and enjoying the serene atmosphere, one Surprise I found was ganja smoking fill the air and more than one person was smoking well it's a public beach so me and my asthmatic friends shouldn't expect any better, so we will try go back in the day , I should suspect the beach will be more guarded and no smoking wil be allowed at day time. Over all it was a to good experience and my friends from overseas loved it especially the clean, clear , not too cold water, was refreshing. And all who want a restful place to exercise this is a good spot, it even have a tarmac for running/ walking/ jogging. There is some areas where there is less lighting that school children likes to congregate and be loud and noisy and plainly just having fun, but the park is a long stretch of beach that can be shared with all sorts of people, you can go away from them and find your own little cozy spot and not even hear or see them at all. This is a wonderful spot for family and friends to visit, or if you just want to have a nice stroll or to meditate...
Read moreThis beach could be great. The people that are in charge get in the way of the park/beach reaching its full potential. They add rules at whim to make things less comfortable for people. Get chairs at the gate, get chairs at the office, Dont go through the gate where you pay for chairs - walk to the pedestrian entrance, then walk to the car gate, then to the chair staff. So we got our own chairs, we follow all the rules. We can no longer bring our own umbrella- we are not allowed to protect ourselves from the sun at a public beach, they should be liable for skin cancer. They also changed the time, security wants you out of the water before posted hours, and will enforce their position to do so.
As of last week we are no longer allowed to bring our own chairs. We brought family from the airport straight to the beach only to be hassled by security. The security guard stood over my family like they had done something illegal while we spoke to the man in charge to find a reasonable solution. He told us that they need to make revenue to have a hassle free area for people. Yet they are hassling people. We try hard to encourage foreigners to support local Jamaica, and the UDC wants to deter this.
We have seen them fire good lifeguards, make it difficult for their vendors, and not support helping kids. A Canadian basketball company offered to throw a free basketball camp for kids there - they said no. We have watched the basketball court sit empty and wear down since they built it. They charge too much per hour for it to help the community. One time we witnessed a guard making sure kids play on half the court because they couldn’t afford the whole court. SHAME ON YOU! DO BETTER!
It’s like the gateman, key man skit, just because they wear security shirts they should not feel they can police beachgoers as if they have done something harmful.
If this park is supposed to be for the people they need to do better and lead with sense. The vendors pay a lot to be there, the security should not be giving beach goers trouble for nothing. We pay taxes in Jamaica and should be able to bring chairs and umbrellas to the beach like any...
Read moreWent here with my church group and it took a while for us to get in, as the bus had to squeeze into an area for parking, as it seems they did not design this place for large buses to park in. Hopefully they rectify that in the future. Limited gazebos, so none was available at that time and so each person had to rent a beach chair for $500JMD...I rented an umbrella for $1000JMD as well as the sun was turned up that day. There are staff members there who install them for you once you show them your receipt from the beach rental shop. There are various snack and food shops on property, but if you wish to get food elsewhere, popular fast food restaurants are right across the street. The burger was nice and juicy, the fried chicken was crispy, but okay, could have had a bit more flavour, the hot dog was good as well and the fries were crispy. I was able to get all this for $2000JMD The water was absolutely divine; crystal clear, very buoyant and warm. The beach was clean and well kept. Awesome for swimming or just lounging around. The overall view was wonderful as you could watch the various planes landing at the airport or just stare at the calm horizon. There are some gaming areas on property, where you can play basketball and other sports. There is also various picnic spots on property, so you and your group can have a fun picnic there, but just know the beach chairs are only for the beach area, so carry a chair if needed. The restrooms and changing areas were decent, but do expect wet floors as most persons are straight out of the water, so there was a mixture of sand and water on the floors. There was no soap available in the soap dispensers. Overall it was a pretty good experience and may try again...
