Most tour companies were pushing YS Falls so we decided to avoid there. We found two others - Mayfield Falls or Benta Falls and decided based on reviews on Benta. It was a great decision.
The landscape of Benta Falls as you enter is breath taking and it is worth having a walk around before and after as there are peacocks, beautiful flowers and amazing trees
The female changing rooms looked new are in great condition and each has a toilet. This is also not surprising as they have big signs up asking you not to use the sinks to clean your water shoes or clothes (so bring a wet bag). We had our own water shoes but they do hire them.
Our guide was Jah T and he was brilliant. He walked us around first and explained where the water for the falls comes from and about the trees and plants.
Even though the rest of the party are confident climbers he explained and watched each person climb to ensure they were safe. As I was scared he helped me up and gave alternative places for me to stand.
We took part in the "mud bath" which is where you cover each other in clay. Some reviews claims this caused bites but it isn't the cause...try the water and humidity, both of which are the perfect conditions. So be prepared as we started getting bit from the moment we arrived at the falls. Although the mud is supposed to be optional you'd miss out on the fun and to be honest the cost is really the guide's wage by the looks of it plus their tip. The tip was worth it for all the helped given and photos taken (we used a waterproof camera).
The falls are much easier to climb than I had anticipated. The rest of the party did the jump and rope swing and again they were given full guidance and supervision. The massage quality of the falls was fun too.
When we went we had the place to ourselves as there were no other visitors so this made the whole experience even more special and relaxed as we could take our time and chill in the water.
We were not hassled at any point and it was a very...
Read moreBenta was wonderful! Due to recent rains, the river was rushing more powerfully than usual, making the climb difficult—however, our guide was very attentive and confident. Maybe it’s just because of how strong the river was, but it was absolutely not possible for us to climb the falls with a phone. Needed two hands for climbing and got completely drenched and/or submerged in water most of the way. To help anyone else wondering about how to budget, we (husband and I) took a route taxi from Negril-Sav for $600JD ($4US), then a chartered taxi up to the falls for $20US per person each way. Our driver waited for us and took us back to Sav. Entrance fee was $25US per person. Our river guide was tipped $2000JD ($13US), you’d probably want to tip more if you have more people in your group. We didn’t eat there. Overall, about ~$155US trip for 2 people round trip from Negril. SUCH a...
Read moreInsanely expensive. If they know you aren’t local they will try to charge you $50US per person! They give some of that money to your driver. Luckily we went with a friend who told them we weren’t going to pay that. It was still so expensive. The falls are cool to see once especially if it’s not crowded. A good place to let the kids run around, the falls are gentle enough for them to swim without worry. The road to get there is horrendous so bring patience. You would think for how expensive it is they would fix the road a bit after the gate. Nope, instead you get a kinda nice bathroom and a bar with...
