Location is not in Montego Bay, what I figured would be a short drive from our hotel in Montego Bay became a 4hr round trip. I have been to the Ocho Rios location on a previous vacation and it was excellent. This one is subpar.. the only reason I am not mad about go8ng is because I know what we paid will also benefit the well being of the dolphins. We were greeted by the check in person being obnoxious to the bus driver, because more than 10 ppl entered the building. He did tell us 10 at a time but obviously he can't control of grown folks don't listen or cant count. She was very unprofessional this was September 12 we arrived just about 10. Driver was nice and knowledgeable. Gift shop and the lady at the bar were very nice. There was a supervisor who was very rude. She proceeded to hustle those of us who were not Swimming to the other side of a makeshift gate that does not stay closed like we had break in. This was myself and another family. Note previous person invited us all to sit under the pavillion on the other side of the gate that we were later scolded for being. Supervisor lady also was upset about us trying to take pics. Please note both myself and the other strangers who also chose not to swim had already purchased picture packages prior to our arrival. Its not like we were trying to screw them out of there photo upsell, we complied but belive she could have acted with a little more professionalism and class. In the end all scolded familes bought some strong drinks from the nice lady at the bar and craned our necks to see our family members swim with the dolphins, that we had so generously paid for, to be treated like straggling ragamuffins. These folks need to be sent to Ochi Rios location to learn how to interact with people. At the end of the day the dolphins entertained those who swam and they had a wonderful time. Thank God the civility and hospitatlity of the animals made it worthwhile. Everyone went home happy. Grounds could use some better upkeep. My advice, if time permits go to Ocho Rios. If u must go to Montego Bay location be prepared for less than stellar customer service, either location the dolphins are a pleasure and so are...
Read moreThe Dolphins themselves were adorable so they get 5 Stars, The Company? yeah you only get 2 Stars and I'm being nice. Why? No personal cameras nor phones are allowed during your Dolphin Experience which means if you want photos of you and your family kissing the dolphins, dancing with the dolphins or swimming with the dolphins, you have to pay to get the ones the professional photographer takes. How much? $40 for 1 photo! So my family of 4 would have cost $160 for us to have 1 photo...I said 1 photo each! Or $200 to have all digital photos on a CD. I mean in this day and age of everyone taking zillions of digital photos, this felt very much like we just got played. We had a wonderful experience with our dolphin Miguel and his trainer, not to mention being with the sting rays, sharks and kayaking (all of which we could take our own pictures) but ending our nice program by walking into the souvenir shop to review our photos and being told what the prices were and looking at the prices felt like pure highway robbery! I have friends who did the dolphin experience in Cancun and were able to take their own photos and/or pay for professional photos, but paying over $450 for my family to experience this and then get an additional fee of $160 for just 4 measly photos ruined our experience at the end. The greed! My gosh how about $15/picture? Huh Dolphin Cove managers? You could have had $60 from us, but instead they got $0 and I have zero photographic proof of our experience. That's the crime. So the only photo I have is of the prior tour playing with the dolphins, attached in this review. Hi friends and family, just pretend that was us over there, try and zoom in and then imagine (que the rolling eyes). Such a bummer. Shame on you Dolphin Cove. It's not like the days where you had to develop any film for goodness sake! Just wipe out that SD card and you're off to the next sucker who has no...
Read moreWhen we got there, it was a bit confusing cause it seemed like we walked into the tail end of the orientation prior to having the encounter with the dolphins. They did not repeat any of it. There were a lot of people there. We were told to leave behind sunglasses, hats, cellphones and cameras. They give you a lifejacket to wear. They separate you into groups according to your wristband color on which encounter you chose. You can choose to have just the meet and greet, the encounter with the dolphin or swim with the dolphin.
When they are ready for you to be with the dolphin, they make you take your shoes off if they're not water shoes and you go down some steps into the water and you walk on a tiled corridor that is about three feet wide and very slippery! So it's recommended that you wear water shoes. You have to remain in single file along with 8 or 10 people plus the trainer in the tiled corridor under the water about 3'. Our handler/trainer was great. She had a cooler that contained fish and octopus for the dolphin. She had the dolphin do some tricks, dance, swim and everyone got to go into the water to have a one on one interaction with the dolphin and get a picture taken.
The pictures were expensive! $40 per picture and you're supposed to get them in digital form within 24 hrs. It hasn't been 24 hrs yet so I don't know if we will get our pictures as promised.
After the dolphin encounter, there was a lunch which consisted of jerk chicken or curry chicken, cabbage or salad and some rice and beans. The drinks were not included in the price of the tour so be prepared to bring extra cash for that and pictures and souvenirs that you may want.
You should bring towels, sunscreen, bathing suit, change of clothes and credit cards/cash. They do have dressing rooms and restrooms there.
The overall...
