Just Reopened - Still worthwhile The course had been left to overgrow since COVID but just reopened on 12/15/22; I played it roughly 3 days since reopening and I was ultimately glad that I did. It's definitely not the BEST course in Jamaica, nor in the MoBay area in it's current state (Cinnamon Hill came more highly reviewed by the staff), but you get 3 very distinct styles on this course; elevated ocean views, great mountain backdrops, and cool winding jungle layouts; definitely not something I think you'll find ANYWHERE ELSE on the island.
The fairways and tee boxes were all pretty much in "as expected" condition for the price point. Everything was cut tight, there were some problem spots but nothing that you wouldn't see anywhere else. The biggest issue were the greens and the bunkers. Some of the greens had bare spots/dirt/sand plaguing them, but you could tell the course is paying the right attention in an attempt to bring them back to full condition. Bunkers are likely going to need to be fully redone if they want to get a a mid $100 price point; none of them were playable while I was there.
Driving range was also still closed when I played but it looked awesome. The clubhouse needs a full overhaul as it's outdated and there wasn't much in terms of food options.
Overall the review I got was that Cinnamon Hill is in far better condition and likely best for those looking to maximize a single round of golf on the island, but the views and layout are likely more incredible at...
Read moreOK let me start by saying that this is my third time playing the course and I rate it the best layout and scenery in Jamaica. The front nine greens were in terrible shape because the refurb job has not taken hold. They should be offering a discount because of that, but tee to green it is a great experience.
Now on to the bad part. The last two times I have played there and Cinnamon Hill they are running the same “caddie scam”. What happens is that they charge you a $15 “caddie fee” when you check in. OK that’s fair. But once you are done your caddie informs you that you owe him or her another $20 that is separate from the other fee. I don’t mind the fee as much as the scam. Furthermore $20-25 was the going rate for a caddie fee the first couple of times I played there. In the future I will make this clear at the desk up front. You want your $15. Fine, but the rest of the amount is at my discretion. So I will announce BEFORE the round to the caddie, you already have $15 I paid, you get $10 at the end of the round. If I feel like paying more fine, but I will not be blackmailed into double dipping.
Option B. Here is your $10. I really don’t need you. I have played the...
Read morePlayed White Witch on April 3rd, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greens have suffered some damage from disease or pest, but not sufficiently to disappoint us. Considering the course was closed for some years post-COVID, it is remarkable that they have recovered so well and shows the hard work put in by the crew to bring it back to its glory. Tee boxes and fairways were consistently in good shape, as was the club house and pro-shop. The mountainous terrain and spectacular ocean views are certainly the highlight of this beautiful golf course. Our caddie was Sharon who was delightful and contributed to helping us play some great rounds of golf. Shout out to Alister who is no longer there, but who was my caddie in 2018. Sharon says they typically referred to him as All-Star. Sharon’s knowledge of the course, especially reading the greens was a highlight to a delightful day. Thank you to...
