Information overload! All of the displays were in Japanese but the monitors had all that info in English/Chinese/Korean/Thai. Free recording rental also offered in foreign languages with extensive explanations. Currently (Aug 2019) there is a special exhibition on the Sami people with various Sami-made goods/souvenirs for sale. They also have a small library with tons of books in various languages and a "try on" dress up station of a few traditional clothes of different north peoples. We spent much more time than anticipated and could have spent even more if we had more time to spare. Ps. the "magic vision" video was really cool!

Came in early feb. Good informative museum about northern people and their culture. Lots of informative exhibits. Though i find abit lacking on the ainu portion. Lots of videos showcasing the different regional cultures of the northern people. Its quite interesting to know that there are archaeological sites nearby as well. There was a special exhibit there on sturgeons and salmons too. Quite interesting to see baby fishes.

A wonderful museum presenting the lives and cultures of various northern native peoples. A very visual museum with numerous displays, archival documentary footage, and touchscreens with English information. Check the website for a ¥50 discount. There is no cafe or restaurant, but there are vending machines and coin lockers. I spent about 90 minutes here.

A really beautiful museum. The whole exhibition is arranged in an entertaining and informative way. It doesn't just include Ainu, but Inuit and many other norther indigenous people. Unfortunately some of the wording in the English is a bit out of date. We were completely alone in the museum. It was a calm and wonderful experience.

Such an amazing museum. I always loved geography and demographics and I was always fascinated by people living in extreme weather - and this museum is totally delivering that. Absolutely recommended.
