Such a nice area to visit. Its for free and there were a lot of areas to see not just the dam. It was said that Miyagase Dam is the largest dam in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. It was completed in 2001 on Nakatsu River which is a branch of Sagamigawa River, with the aim of protecting the livelihoods and safety of the citizens. We were lucky that we caught the timing for the release of dam water. (I think it is available from April to November). It was really fun. There were a lot of students who were on a field trip to see it too. Didn't expect how strong it was. We got wet a little but it was so much fun. It was a great experience to see that everyone watching was also having fun. Miyagase Lake was also a great sight to see. Such a beautiful area...

Miyagase Dam has two different areas to visit. The top area along route 64 has a visitor center and views of the dam/lake from the top. You can also walk the many walking trails in that area. This is also the area where they have the Christmas tree lights.

On the bottom section of the damn which you get to off of route 412, you can walk up to the base of the damn itself and actually take an elevator to the top of the dam. There is also a cable tram car that you can ride up the side of the mountain from the top to the bottom of the dam. The views from the dam are awesome. There is also a little "train" that you can take from the base of the dam back to the visitor center if you don't want...

Be sure to go on a day when the dam does a discharge!!! So much more exciting. I guess parking costs money in certain months?? If was free today, 4th of July. If you stand on that bridge to take photos/videos of the discharge, your gear will get wet from the mist.

There’s a playground nearby the bottom. There’s a train that went between the parking lot and the dam, but it really wasn’t a far walk. It was ¥200 for adult or ¥100 per child for the train.

We love the curry bowl at the Lakeside Cafe. It’s made like the dam and the curry...

A staggering 156 meters high and approximately 400 meters long! One of the largest dams in the Tokyo area, it started full-scale operation in April 2001. The dam provides tap water and electricity and also serves other roles, such as regulating the water flow in times of flooding, and dealing with droughts. Special sights to see are the awe-inspiring dam cascades for sightseers, limited to certain times of the day, the view from the top of the dam, the abundant natural scenery at the sides of the lake, and the red leaves in the fall.
