The snow was fantastic and the slopes un-crowded, however sadly this is where the positives in my review for Aomori Spring end. I live and work in Hokkaido so I have no shortage of untracked powder on my doorstep already.
My friends and I especially chose this resort for a freestyle snowboard training week, lured here under the illusion that Aomori is a specialist park resort (as their website suggests!) Whatever Aomori was in the past, this is certainly not the case now.
There was no half-pipe at all, and no jumps or jib features for the first three days we were there. After the organiser of our group met with management. some jumps were sculpted for the last two days of our stay. These were good and we appreciated the effort, but we would have loved to have made use of them for the entire week (given that freestyle was the sole purpose of our trip). Aomori's website promises 30+ jump and jib features - but in reality the resort only possesses TWO rails! No boxes, no ride-on features, nothing at all for a beginner progression.
I could not fault staff or facilities at the resort, but the false advertising is extremely disappointing. We would not have chosen Aomori Spring for our training week if we had known what it was really...
Read moreWe came here 29 Dec to 3 Jan 2024. This place is famous for snowboarders which made sense because we were wondering why there were so many snowboarders!
We organised a taxi with the hotel (fixed fee) for pick up at Aomori station and drop off. Unfortunately there was a mishap with our pick up from the station and we had to wait an extra 1hr-1.5hr until the taxi came. Drop off was no issue. Just make sure you double check with the hotel a few days before just in case.
Unfortunately not all the slopes (incl. the half pipe) were opened so we missed doing some of the harder runs. Hardly anyone here compared to popular places in Nagano/Hokkaido so we basically had the whole mountain to ourselves which was amazing! There are no discounts for multi-day lifts/rentals which was a shame but no big deal. The website also said they do night skiing but that wasn't operating when we were there which was a shame!
Because the resort is small, there are no services at the top of the mountain. You can have lunch at the cafeteria in the Gondola building or at Ramen House at Quad 4. I particularly liked this resort because it was mostly locals...so therefore I highly suggest avoid eating lunch during the lunch time rush (12-1pm) so either go...
Read moreThis is by far the best ski resort I’ve been to in Japan and I’ve been to over 20 different Japanese ski resorts.
The lift crew work tirelessly overnight to keep every single lift open every day. The lift ticket prices are very reasonable. The gondola, that runs every day, brings you up to the top with amazing views of the ocean.
There are many tree runs that can be accessed by lift with no hiking. The terrain park is huge and caters well for all abilities. As an American who stayed here for two weeks, this resort catered for all my needs and I felt that there was no language barrier at all. My favourite lunch is the onigiri at the cafeteria; don’t forget to...
