Rope car: great views, huge car, nice speed, smooth, 10-minute ride each way. Round trip is ¥2000. Observation deck: great views if you don't want to do the hiking! A few snacks for sale, but no proper meals (there is a soba shop at the ropeway base). Hiking: the 30-minute course isn't very hard. It's all either paved or boardwalk. Some steep steps. The 60-minute course is a bit harder, but still doable for beginners. The incline isn't steep, nor is the distance far. The biggest challenge may be that the trail is overgrown in many spots, so it's hard to see steps or drops. Long pants are recommended in all seasons because of the plant overgrowth. Transport: definitely doable as a half-day trip from Aomori using the JR bus, especially in the warmer months. From Aomori Station departure to arrival, I took about 5 hours.

Spectacular snowy scenic view in Japan!. especailly watching it during the moment of in the ropeway, u must relax yourself to enjoy it instead of busying taking photos. The day that i am going, weather was very cold -9°,with strong wind and blur vision, until i can only walk a short distance to explore the surrounding area coz it is not advisable to walk further without a clear vision. understand from the tourism board officer, end Jan to mid Feb is the best period to see the real snow monsters. so to those who area interested to this place, make yourself free in the above period to watch the real Giant snow monsters.

Very bad experience. Ropeway opens at 9am and we drove there and arrived at 9am. There are lots of local tour groups and they have conquered the entire ropeway centre. We are unable to get on the cable cars as while we were lining up at the stairs, the local tour group keep pushing and squeezing in line to get to the front. Ropeway cable car runs in every 15mins. Even though we were in line for around 30 to 40 people, I cannot imagine when we can get on the cable car with these pushing and squeezing from local tour groups. We have no choice but to refund and leave.

Visited 25th October during autumn colours, and it was really pretty! The gondola ran every 15 mins when I visited, and the ride was pretty packed on both ways. Once you're up there's 2 routes you can hike, 30 min route and an hour route. When I went the route was already covered by thin cover of ice making it slippery at points so it took us longer. Best to have proper clothing and shoes if hiking, but also saw other groups just taking pictures close to the ropeway then taking the next one down. The round trip cost 2000 yen pp, and there's free parking on site.

Hakkoda ropeway. Pretty big gondola that goes up towards Mt. Tamoyachi, every 15 to 20 minutes. Prices both ways (one way) 2000¥ (1250¥) for adults and 700¥ (450¥) for kids, prices summer 2019. Open from 9 to 16.20 (last ride, down I think). The ride itself takes 10 minutes bottom to top. You can see Aomori in the distance and the surrounding mountains, very beautiful scenery! From the upper station a short hike starts (about 2km), but you can get a one way ticket and go trails, down to Sukayu Onsen for example.

冬の山頂は日中でもマイナス10℃以下になります！ 強風で運休する日も多いですが、動けば1時間以上待ちも。 春から秋は観光に最高！(^^) 観光の方は、冬に山頂駅から外に出るには防寒防風の服装、防寒長靴か登山靴、ゴーグル、サングラス、帽子、手袋など必須です。 保温してないスマホは-3℃以下の強風に晒されると熱くなって急速放電して数秒で電池切れになりますからご注意を。 ガスで見えないと数10mでも迷子になって遭難します。 冬は、10日に1日程 運良く晴れれば、真っ白な山と樹氷、遠く陸奥の海迄 絶景が見えます。 冬、積雪は軽く4mを超え、連日 強い季節風が吹きガスと吹雪で真っ白で視程15m、20m/sの風でも動くロープウェイは、今冬は風向と風速により全日運休する日も多いです。 スキーもボードも皆さんロッカーのパウダー太板で、地図コンパス、GPSナビ、雪崩ビーコン胸に着けて、バックパックにシャベル、プローブ、シール、スノーシュー、ヘッドランプなど完全装備でガイド付きなどの強者系のBCの人達ばかりです。 山は全体に傾斜は緩いですが、コース外れると首迄埋まる深雪と深く切れ落ちた崖になった沢が2〜3、ルート（間違うと）に寄っては、最後に平らな所を延々ラッセルハイク、強い風当たる所は幅と深さ5m超えの天然チューブ、ウェーブ、ツリーホールが至る所に有り、落ちてケガ無くても脱出にシャベル欲しい事も。 ガイド無しだと、良く地図が読めて、ルート探索出来る相当のBC上級者向きです。 ゲレンデ装備で滑れるのはガリガリの時のダイレクトコースだけかも。 条件良ければ広い斜面でノートラックの最高の深いパウダーと温泉が満喫出来ます(^^) 安全に楽しく滑りましょう！(^^) More than 4meters deep fluffy Powder Snow at below -10 degrees Celsius with around 20meters/seconds Wind Speed in season! Mostly not Steep, but 3 deeply hollowed rivers, some cliffs and 5 meters wide & deep natural Tubes & Waves, Tree Holes around everywhere strong wind blows. For skiing Powder, You need good abilities of reading well-detailed Topographic maps, finding routes with Powder BC equipments as Rocker Powder Boards, skins or snowshoe, poles, compass, good Topographic maps, GPS Navigation, Avalanche Beacon, Shovel, Plobe, Headlamp, enough Foods & Water in your ski packs. Rescue system is quite bureaucratic and not efficient and may take few days to move out, not reliable at all, and may costs you more than 30K US dollars! Have a Good Vacation! And Enjoy Deep Powder & Onsen-Hotsprings !!

Description
The Hakkōda Ropeway is the name of a Japanese aerial lift line, as well as its operator. Opened in 1968, the line climbs Mount Tamoyachi in the Hakkōda Mountains in Aomori, Aomori. It transports skiers and rime spectators in winter, and hikers in other seasons.
