Takushinkan — Attraction in Biei

So the story goes , we engage a guide to take us around Sapporo and the surrounding sights of nearby Hokkaido. Our guide none other than a sweet “Mr Igarashi” a native of Biei . He takes us around the whole day to the lavender fields of Furano to Tomita Farms and onto Biei , then mentions he went to school in Biei as a small child 60 years ago and asked us if we would like to see his old school . Here we are visiting Hokkaido for the first time and curious to know everything about it we say to our guide “ Mr Igarashi “ yes we would love to see your old school. He pulls up to this beautiful spot which is now a art gallery called “ Takushinkan” a famed photographer’s gallery by the name of “ Shinzo Maeda” , so the old school doesn’t exist but this beautiful gallery run by this exquisite lady “ Mika”( I hope I got the spelling right to her name ) speaks very eloquently in English and explains the history and background of the artist “Mr Shinzo Maeda” This beautiful gallery is must visit if you find yourself Biei. The photos are absolutely stunning and captures the spirit and the emotions of Mr Shinzo Maeda .

Takushinkan Gallery was originally Chito Elementary School. In 1987, the former photographer Miyashino Sanchoi Elementary School was built as a photo hall, exhibiting more than 80 pieces, all of Hokkaido's different beauty throughout the year. It's a pity that we weren't allowed to take pictures inside at all. making the beauty that can only be seen in the memory

best way to visit It is a bike ride out of the Four Seasons Color Hill and a short ride to Toshin Hall, originally Chito Elementary School.
