Choenji — Attraction in Chino

The autumn temple

A little temple erected in a rural village at the foot of the Yatsugatake, in early November Choen-ji turns into a piece of art. This time of year, a dazzling autumn foliage corridor ushers the visitors to the main hall, a golden path of Ginkgo leaves below their feet and the sky ablaze with red Momiji above their heads.

The most beautiful corner of the temple is perhaps the water lily pond, where a hundred stone statuettes of the buddha are reflected in the water beneath the centenary maple trees.

Other seasons are not any less beautiful. In spring the air is filled with the fragrance of the 300-year-old chestnut tree and Chinese fringe tree white blossoms, while in summer you can gaze at the golden flowers of the Japanese rain...

50年以上の歴史のある紅葉「モミジ・楓」が綺麗な長野県茅野市のお寺。

メインの駐車場10台、他臨時の駐車場が用意されている。

紅葉の季節には参道にある樹齢300年の杉の緑とモミジの真っ赤なコントラストがとても写真映えすると人気を博している。

紅葉の見頃は例年10月下旬から11月中旬。Googlemapを確認すれば写真をアップしている人がいるので、写真を見て訪問を決めるのも良いだろう。

紅葉の見頃の時期に合わせて、諏訪紅葉三山めぐりやライトアップが毎年行われている。また、この時期には期間限定の御朱印を配布していたり、特別拝観やコンサートなどもやっているようだ。詳細を知りたい方は長円寺のホームページを参照のこと。

SNSで人気なので気合を入れてポートレート写真を撮られる方が多く、そういう人と遭遇するとなかなかいい位置で写真を撮るのが難しいだろう。出来ればまだ人があまり来ないような時間帯、もしくは人が帰り、少なくなる時間帯に訪問するのが良いだろう。

石仏百体観音は当山十五代祐慶法印のとき造立したもので石工は菊地道悦の作品。石仏はいずれもとても緻密に彫られており、八ヶ岳の臼杵石を使用しているとのこと。

入口の左手後列より日本で一番古いと云われている西国三十三番観音霊場。続いて坂東三十三観音霊場そして秩父三十四観音霊場の本尊様を灌頂している。すべてお参りすると日本三大霊場巡礼と同じ功徳を積むことができるとされているようだ。
