I recently visited the Usu Volcano Observatory, located at the foot of Mount Usu in Hokkaido, Japan. As someone fascinated by geology and volcanology, I found this observatory to be an absolute gem.
The observatory offers stunning views of Mount Usu and Lake Toya, making it a great spot for photography. But what really impressed me was the wealth of information available about the volcano's history, geology, and current activity.

Gondola is going every 15mins, it was aroud 1500yen, if you are coming with car to the base of mountain, parkig is 500yen. This place is 1day trip. Nice park, museum, to see remains of the old village after eruption of the Vulcano. Prepare camera, many things to see here. There is hiking trail around crater, it is ~ 1.1km long one. It is a nice story about Volcano research, don't miss to hear it. On your way back, go to some Hot spring/onsen...

Breathtaking view of Mt Usu and also the surroundings. There is a 600 steps path down to the crater observatory which takes 45-60min (one way trip). As it’s a dead end, you must walk back the 600 steps (now up) which is challenging with the thinner air making it harder to breathe.
