Abuto Kannon — Attraction in Fukuyama

瀬戸内海を望む断崖に建つ朱塗りの観音堂は、まさに絶景そのもの。波の音が子守唄のように響き、風がやさしく吹き抜ける境内は、心を静かに整えてくれます。

航海安全や子授け・安産祈願で知られ、堂内には壁いっぱいに 奉納された「おっぱい絵馬」が印象的。 山全体のシルエットが伏せたウサギのように見えるという由来も、訪れてみると確かに頷けます。

⚠ ご注意 本堂の床は滑りやすく、海側にわずかな傾斜があります。 手すりや柵も低いため、撮影や拝観の際によそ見をすると大変危険です。 拝観の際は土足厳禁です。足元に十分ご注意ください。 お子様をお連れの場合は、必ず手をつなぎ、目を離さないようご配慮ください。

アクセス JR福山駅から鞆鉄バス（新川線）または松永駅南口から沼南線で「阿伏兎観音入口」下車、徒歩15分。 バスは本数が少ないので、事前に時刻表を確認すると安心です。

設備 第1駐車場は普通車4台分が無料で利用可能。 トイレは駐車場隣にあり、きれいに整備されています。

Abuto Kannon Temple (Fukuyama, Hiroshima)

Perched on a dramatic cliff overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the vermilion Kannon Hall offers a breathtaking view of sky and water. The sound of the waves echoes like a lullaby, and the gentle sea breeze through the temple grounds calms the heart.

Renowned for prayers for safe voyages, fertility, and easy childbirth, the hall’s interior is striking—its walls are lined with countless oppai ema (“breast-shaped” votive plaques). The mountain itself is said to resemble a reclining rabbit, and when you see it in person, you’ll understand the origin of the name.

⚠ Important Safety Notice The main hall’s floor can be slippery and has a slight slope toward the sea. Railings and barriers are quite low, so taking photos or looking away while walking can be dangerous. Shoes must be removed before entering the hall—please watch your step carefully. If visiting with children, be sure to hold their hands and keep them within sight at all times.

Access Take the Tomotetsu Bus (Shinkawa Line) from JR Fukuyama Station, or the Nōnan Line from Matsunaga Station South Exit. Get off at “Abuto Kannon Iriguchi” and walk about 15 minutes. Buses run infrequently, so checking the timetable in advance is recommended.

Facilities Parking Lot 1 offers free parking for about four standard cars. Clean restrooms are located next to the parking area.

Pls don't visit this remote location unless you have a private transport. The bus only travel couple of times a day. And you be stuck in a remote location that take 2hrs to travel and 5mins to visit. The shrine is quite unique but I feel a total visit of time. Not...
