Kagamiyama Castle Ruins — Attraction in Higashi Hiroshima

Lots of boulders and scattered rocks/stones all over the little mountain, some natural and some left as evidence of what once was. A few old wells exist also, which were created with stone linings -- and the appearance is really something if you can get a good lighted camera over it. There are some snakes in the area so if you come during warmer months then be aware -- especially after rain. I saw one non-venomous snake but it was quite long and was a good reminder of why I chose to wear protective leggings. There is a large, stoney area up on top that appears to be somewhat difficult to get to right now, as of May 2021, which seems to be due to the recent rain. They've got a variety of tarps/canvases laid out across some of the paths and steps so it kind of makes it challenging to go up in some spots. Climbing experience was very nice, in order to reach to the crest you may need to walk for a 30 min approximately. But one should be careful from snakes and other animals!. 鏡山城は標高335mの鏡山山頂付近に展開する山城である。麓からの比高は約100m程度である。 鏡山城は国の史跡に指定されている。

鏡山城の麓は鏡山公園として整備され、城跡までは遊歩道が整備されているため登りやすい。約20分程度で本丸まで登ることが可能である。

城趾自体は整備されたのがだいぶ以前のようで案内板等がかなり老朽化している印象である。鏡山城の特徴としては竪堀の多さであるが、ほとんどの竪堀は草に覆われており、迫力を失っていた。もう一つの特徴は山城であるのに各所に井戸の跡があることである。水源が充実していたのであろう。

鏡山城は大きく5つの曲輪から構成されており、部分的に石垣も残されていた。 また独立峰であるため、本丸からは周囲を広く見渡すことができる。
