Amazing museum! We made our own shimenawas out of rice that is grown locally right across the street. We learned about the process of making the sacred ropes. They made the famous sacred rope for Izumo Taisha! Their gift shop is adorable, they have small shimenawas for 500 yen that make great gifts. I loved their picture book that explains the whole process of making these sacred ropes. Great for children and adults.

飯南町大しめなわ創作館は、出雲大社神楽殿の大しめ縄の制作に代表される、町に伝わるしめ縄づくりの伝統文化を後世に伝え、また、その技術を活かし、しめ縄の生産を行う施設として平成２６年９月に開館したそうです。 飯南町では、昭和30年代から、およそ6年ごとに出雲大社神楽殿の大しめ縄の制作が行われ、しめ縄づくりの技術と伝統が受け継がれています。 大しめなわ創作館では、しめ縄の生産を行いながら、町に伝わるしめ縄文化を後世に伝えるとともに、制作工房の見学、資料展示、また実際にしめ縄づくりを体験していただけるコーナーも有ります 日本最大級の大しめ縄の制作過程や出雲大社への奉納風景の写真パネルや、実物の「大しめのこ」などしめ縄に関する展示がご覧いただけます。

道の駅とんばらの観光案内人のおじさんに、見学無料だから行ってみられたら…と言われ、訪問してみました。 出雲大社の大しめなわを奉納するほど、しめなわで有名な飯南町だと初めてしりました。なかり有名人も来館されているようで、しめ縄作り体験ができるそうです。早速、午後からの予約ができたのでやってみましょう。 昼食を済ませて訪問、作るのは1,200円コースの、自宅の神棚へ飾るしめ縄です。丁寧に教えてもらって、約40分で完成。我ながらうまくできました。
