Nice little temple 🙂 Nothing so special about all these temples but the pilgrimage walk could be nice. Walking the 3 first temples was good idea (took me 2-3h), specially if you enjoy being away from the big japanese cities and seing some country side and random casual life of Japan. Don’t miss the buses of pilgrims stopping by and having a prayer (you won’t miss them with their...

Visited in Dec 2016. Don’t quite remember if I saw my face in the mirror but it’s now been 3 years and I’m feeling fine. Guess I’ll reach 92, if the fairy tale is correct. Painted this today after some photos I took then. Watercolors 12x18 Inches. Used a lot of ivory black and then some scraping to get the highlights and...

Nice little temple 🙂 Nothing so special about all these temples but the pilgrimage walk could be nice. Walking the 3 first temples was good idea (took me 2-3h), specially if you enjoy being away from the big japanese cities and seing some country side and random casual life of Japan. Don’t miss the buses of pilgrims stopping by and having a prayer (you won’t miss them with their white clothes) !

第3番札所 亀光山 釈迦院 金泉寺 （きこうざん しゃかいん こんせんじ） 高野山真言宗の寺院。本尊は釈迦如来（伝行基作）。創建は天平年間（729〜749）。 思うところあり、暑い時期の2023年8月6日に四国遍路のため徳島入り。翌日2日目はこちらの第3札所からお参り。曇天でしたが、赤い仁王門が美しいお寺です。 また境内奥には一般の方の墓地らしからぬ建物があり驚きました。 般若心経を唱えている途中から雨脚が強くなり、このような中でのお参りは初めてで、他の人もおらず境内は静かなものでした。 雨がひどくなりましたが、暑さが紛れて歩きやすかった。ただ思った以上に雨が強くて靴の中はびっしょり。運良くこの近くに農協の資材館があり長靴を購入でき助かった。 以下は四国八十八ヶ所霊場會サイトより。 聖武天皇（在位724〜49）の勅願により行基菩薩が寺塔を建立し、「金光明寺」と命名されたと伝えられる。そのころの本尊は高さ約91センチの釈迦如来像で、脇侍に阿弥陀如来、薬師如来の三尊像を安置して開基したという。弘仁年間（810〜24）になって弘法大師が四国を巡教された際、村の人たちが日照りに苦しんでいるのを見て、この地に井戸を掘られた。この井戸から湧き出た水は霊水で、「長寿をもたらす黄金の井戸」とされ、寺名の「金光明寺」を改め、「金泉寺」とした。その後、亀山天皇（在位1259〜74）が法皇になられ、弘法大師を篤く信仰されて各地の霊跡を巡拝、金泉寺にもしばらく滞在された。 その間に、京都の三十三間堂（蓮華王院）に倣ならった堂舎を建立し、1,000の千手観音像を祀られ、背後の山を「亀山」と命名し、山号も「亀光山」と改めた。この堂舎には経蔵がおかれ、学僧たちで賑わったという。以来、皇室との縁が深く、長慶天皇（在位1368〜83）の御陵も本堂裏にある。また、源平合戦（元暦2年＝1185）のおり、源義経が屋島に向かう途中に金泉寺に立ち寄り、戦勝開運の祈願をしたと『源平盛衰記』に伝えられている。本堂の左手にある慈母観音子安大師は、義経の祈願所ではあるが、境内西隣にある「弁慶石」もその一つで、義経が弁慶の力試しに持ち上げさせたと伝えられている。すこやかに育てと願う親心の観音菩薩。いまも人生の開運を願う参詣者が多く訪れる。
