一年ぶりに訪問しました。メイン道路をひめゆりの塔前から西へ２００メートルくらい進むと南に入る小道に第一外科壕への案内看板があります。左に折れ少し進むとすぐ左手にこんもりとした森のような場所があります。道脇に小型車ならギリギリ一台止められる位のスペースがあります。昨年は一人で訪れて、その佇まいに威圧され階段をいちばん下まで降りられませんでした。今年は二人で訪れましたが、、やはり足が途中で止まってしまいました。遊び半分で来た者を寄せ付けないような雰囲気です。戦中はこう言った場所で多くの方が苦しみ、戦っておられたのですね。雨上がりで水の香りと鳥のさえずりで厳かな雰囲気でした。観光地でもあるひめゆりの塔(第３外科壕)と比べるとあまり知られておらず、場所も判りにくい為見に来られる人も少ないですが、時間に少し余裕があればぜひ一度訪れて欲しい場所です。
