This place was better than expected, it is very easy to get there and it os really easy to walk around. There are clean toilets, a miniature museum or more like a informative centre, some souvenir stands where you can find books, post cards, fruits, snacks, drinks and beer 😁There are some trails to walk around with great scenery for very nice pictures where you can see the ocean on one side and on the other the Volcano and thousands of pine trees. Hawks and eagles are easily spotted, there are a few kiosk where you can escape the sun on the sunny days or the excessive ashes when the volcano is very active. Read moreAble to get up close with Sukurajima. Many viewpoints to look at the volcano, however don't expect to see any lava. Very ash laden, but pathways are still extremely clean. Expect to get a little sooty if volcano is especially active. Able to be accessed via a 20 min bus ride (¥740 return trip). The bus leaves from the bus stop closest to the port ferry, not the bus stop closer to the information centre. Hard hats are available at the observatory point should you need to evacuate (which is nice I guess but slightly unnerving).
