Kaiyo Municipal Museum — Attraction in Kaiyo

Pictures do justice to the charm of this shadow play which brings to life scenes of the town history from the days long gone. Creatures from the world of Japanese folklore, warships, castles, tombs, and other shadow figures float around real Kaifu swords, and shadow battles are going on with exotic music in the background.

Many of the decorations were created by the children from local kindergarten under the guidance of the shadow puppeteer, artist Koheysai Kawamura, who merged the fantastic sea creatures into the main exhibit. Another room of the exhibition is devoted fully to the shadow puppets the local school children made during the workshop with the artist. The shadowy forest, full of kappa, tanuki, magic animals and celestial spirits stirs the imagination.

「海陽町：海陽町立博物館」 2025年3月にバイクツーリングで立ち寄りました。こういう施設が好きでよく行きます。

ここでは大阪夏の陣でその名を馳せた「海部刀」などの歴史を知ることができます。また、古墳や伝奇の情報も盛りだくさんです。300円は安いと思います。

まず、入り口に入って目を惹くのは県指定文化財第一号である大里古墳（大里二号墳）のジオラマです。六世紀末のものとしては阿波で最も価値のある古墳で、その内部がよくわかるジオラマは古墳の造られた当時の姿がイメージでき、郷土の古墳文化を体験できます。

奥に進むと海部刀のコーナーがあります。美術刀剣として知られる海部刀の他、徳島県内で制作された阿波刀が常設展示されています。

それらのうち、大坂の陣で活躍をした海部刀は片切刃で刀身に銘を切った山刀風の脇指で、桜の皮等を巧みに組み合わせた「海部拵」が付くものがあり、外装も大きな特徴の一つです。
