Just about 60 minutes from central Tokyo, Yomiuriland is a must-visit amusement park that somehow flies under the radar—and that’s a shame, because it’s absolutely incredible. Nestled in the hills of Inagi, Tokyo, this park has been delighting visitors since 1964, and it’s still going strong with over 40 attractions ranging from high-octane roller coasters to hands-on creative zones for kids.
The standout for me was the Bandit roller coaster—a breathtaking ride that winds through lush forested hills, offering stunning views and exhilarating drops. It’s one of the longest coasters I’ve ever seen, and easily one of the prettiest. The way it blends into the landscape makes it feel like you’re flying through nature.
In the summer, the park transforms with Pool WAI, a full water park complete with wave pools, slides, and palm trees. There’s also a haunted house—which I skipped because it looked way too intense—but it’s a hit for thrill-seekers. And the “Goodjoba!!” area is a blast for kids and adults alike, offering interactive attractions themed around Japanese craftsmanship in industries like food, fashion, and even space. You can learn, play, and create all in one spot.
We loved the go-karts, bumper cars, and the sheer variety of rides. But the best part? No lineups. Seriously—imagine walking straight onto rides at a major amusement park. It felt surreal and made the whole day so much more enjoyable.
Getting there is easy via the Keio Sagamihara Line to Keio-Yomiuriland Station, where you can hop on the Sky Shuttle gondola—a scenic ride that glides you right into the park with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. It’s a magical way to arrive and sets the tone for the day.
Yomiuriland also hosts seasonal events like cherry blossom viewing in spring and Jewellumination in winter, where the park lights up with gemstone-inspired LED displays. There are plenty of food options, clean facilities, and a relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for families, couples, or solo adventurers.
If you’re looking for a fun, crowd-free, and beautifully designed amusement park near Tokyo, Yomiuriland deserves way more attention than it gets. I’ll...
Read moreThis theme park has 3 main areas: the main park area where the rides are, the water park area (used for illuminations in the winter) and the newer semi-educational heavily sponsored area when you can design your own Nissin noodle cover and have it made into a professional product to take home, or ride around the SECOM pedal track, among other attractions. There is a large car park, or a gondola cable car from the nearest station (Keio Yomiuriland) up to the park - definitely try to use this in the winter as you get a great view of the illuminations. I don't recommend driving if you're going to the illuminations in the winter, it's popular and the roads get jam-packed.
Each winter, the illuminations design changes and it's always good. Very popular for children and families but also a good date spot for young adults, apparently.
In the summer, this is a good water park with 2 giant water slides, a rotating current pool, a wave pool (often with live music entertainment), a swimming pool (look out for the male lifeguard synchronised swimming performance) and well worth a visit.
It's way the place is definitely catered more to children than adults, but they do serve beer (in both the water park and main park) and some rides such as the space shuttle that goes upside down, rotating 360 degrees, are also good for adults. I don't rate the rides highly in general, as a tall adult, but the kids will have...
Read moreYomiuri Land is huge, filled with many attractions and rides. Even though we entered just after opening time, we were unable to visit every single attraction and ride by the end of the day, that’s just how big the amusement park is.
The rides were thrilling and fast paced, if you have a fear of roller coasters, there are still other fun alternatives. The scariest ride for me was the sudden drop ride (Crazy Stooon) followed by the sudden launch ride (Crazy Hyuuuu), absolutely thrilling, giving you that short burst of adrenaline rush, definitely not for the faint of heart. Food was good and relatively affordable, nothing spectacular but filled our tummies for the day. I highly recommend any thrill seekers to give Yomiuri Land a visit.
Night time was stunning, there was a light show and the roads were beautifully lit up. If you’re looking to take some photos of the park, stick till night time!
There is also a U.F.O Nissin cup noodle factory where you can draw your own cup noodle’s cover design to bring home as a souvenir. It costs about 500 yen per pax and you’ll have to book a time slot.
I highly recommend the day pass as it’s simply great value for money. Day passes can be booked online via Klook or any other booking platforms. Advanced booking is recommended as queues for buying tickets in venue may be long. Overall, had a blast at Yomiuri...
