I visited Kyusendō Cave on a Saturday, arriving around 11:45 AM — surprisingly, there weren’t many people yet, which made the whole experience feel even more special. I drove from Kumamoto via Route 219. The drive itself was scenic, winding through lush green valleys and mountain views, although there were a few construction detours along the way. Some of the tunnels were a bit narrow and eerie, but honestly, it just added to the sense of adventure.
The cave entrance is nestled in a quiet, forested area. I opted for the regular unguided tour, which cost 1,100 yen. It was absolutely worth it. It’s well-maintained, and there’s a good balance between natural wonder and visitor accessibility.
Overall, it was a rewarding experience — peaceful, mysterious, and very different from the usual sightseeing spots. If you enjoy nature, a little quiet, and don’t mind a few backroad challenges to get there, Kyusendō Cave is totally...
