Konzoji Temple is located in the south-west part of Rakusai district called Oharano in Ukyo Ward. The temple is up on Mt. Oshio. The temple belongs to Tendai sect of Buddhism and it was originally established in 718 established here by the order of Emperor Gensho. Large part of the temple was destroyed during the warring period of Onin and later reestablished by Keishoin who is mother to Shogun Tsuneyoshi Tokugawa and also known as a temple mentioned in an oldtime story book of Kokin. The place is popular by hikers and visitors wishing to see autumn leaves. The entrance to the temple is 300 yen which you volunterily pay into an offering box at the entrance gate since the temple is not usually attended by anyone. On your way up the mountain in your approach to the temple, there is a sacred place of worship with a beautiful water fall. This is where a purification ritual is held among priests serving in Konzoji Temple. It is called water fall of San ( delivery ) visited by the ones wish for giving safe delivery. The hight of the fall is approximately 12 meters. The access to the temple requires some hiking after getting off the bus at the nearest bus stop ( Minami Kasuga Bus stop ) since the temple is up on the elevation of 350 meters above the sea level. It requires about 50 minutes hiking. Please follow the direction of hiking course on your way. To get to the location of bus stop by taking a train, take Hankyu Line o Higashi Muko Station. お寺に到着して周辺を見渡す限り人っこ1人見当たらない。自然の音だけが鳴り響いている静かなお寺、それが初見での印象でした。 ( ゚д゚)「そりゃ平日の真昼間にこんな山奥のお寺にお参りに来る人なんておらんもんな〜」 そう思いつつ地図を見ながら研究対象の生物がいるとされる沢へのルートを探していました。
