I love this beach. Beautiful, clear water and a really relaxed atmosphere. My personal tip? Come here after 5PM. The beach clears out, but you still have plenty of sunshine in the summer to enjoy swimming for a few hours.
If you're reading this, you're probably an English-speaker, so I'll just mention that this beach is only officially in season from mid-July to mid-to-late August. So, there's a beach house and stuff, but only during those times.

Read moreSuper clear waters and pretty clean overall. The beach is a bit rocky and full of broken shells but closer to the water, it gets sandier. People don't leave trash around but strangely there were a lot of newspapers in the sand under the water. It was quite busy when we went around 3pm during Obon and many people were barbecuing or had tents set up. There are bathrooms and shower stalls (¥200 per shower). While the beach was clean, it seems like that didn't translate to the bathroom since, at least in the women's bathroom, a few of the stalls were left unflushed....

If you keep travelling on the road past Kitaura you go over a headland with awesome photo opps and arrive at the next beach. This beach has free parking and swimming.
