Wakimachi Theater "Odeonza" — Attraction in Mima

The historic theater is open daily from 9am to 5pm for viewing. It was just 200 yen per person to enter, and the attendant was so friendly and helpful. He explained to us the history of the building, showed us trapdoor tunnel to the stage, and played some traditional music to recreate the feel of when the theater performed Kabuki plays. We didn't have many expectations when we stopped by, but were so glad that we did! Definitely worth the small entry fee to see this piece of history. Wish we could come back when there is a concert or event scheduled to see...

オデオン座は当初、「脇町劇場」という名の 芝居小屋として建てられ、歌舞伎や演劇などの公演が行われました。戦後には「脇劇」の愛称で親しまれ、 コンサートや映画の上映も行われていたのです。

当時のにぎわいを知る方に お話を伺ったところ、オデオン座で見た映画やお芝居は、子どものころの良い思い出となっていると語っていました。

そんな脇町劇場ですが、映画産業の衰退とともに利用者が激減。...
