Beppu Benten Pond — Attraction in Mine

" Emerald Green + Clean Clean Water " Beppu Benten Pond — a sacred blue gem near Akiyoshidai. When visiting Akiyoshidai, this spot is always recommended alongside it—and for good reason.

The water is unbelievably clear, with a emerald green that looks surreal even without any filter. It’s no surprise that it’s been selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Famous Waters,” with a spring so pure, you can actually drink straight from it.

Personally, whenever I visit Akiyoshidai, I make it a point to stop by Beppu Benten Pond as well. It’s a moment of quiet, sacred serenity—where I can sit with the stillness, take in the green/blue tranquility, and enjoy a cup of unbelievably clean, delicious spring water before...

山口県美祢市秋芳町別府水上にある別府弁天池

透き通ったコバルトブルー、あるいは宝石のようなエメラルドグリーンの水が神秘的な美しさを見せるパワースポットである。

この湧水は、カルスト地域特有の水質で、カルシウムと炭酸水素塩が豊富に含まれており、カルシウムの含有量は20ppm (パーツ・パー・ミリオン)、人間の口にぴったりな濃度となっている。主に地域住民の生活用水や鱒 (マス) の養殖に利用されている。

湧水は摂氏14.5度の透明度の高い水で、環境庁より昭和60年7月20日、日本名水百選に選定された。併設されている美祢市養鱒場釣り堀では、ニジマス釣りを楽しむことができる。

湧水の青さの秘密は、石灰岩で構成されたこの地特有のカルスト地形にあり、「別府弁天池」では、カルシウム分を含んだ透明度の高い水が湧き出ている。その湧水が太陽光に照らされ、青色の光のみが反射することにより、神秘的なブルーに見える。

池が最も美しく見える天候は、光が反射しやすい晴天の日で、風は無風状態の方が、池の表面が波立たず、より美しく映る。訪れた日は晴天で、風はほとんどなかった。

「別府弁天池」は、毎分11トン (毎秒およそ168L) の豊富な湧出量を誇り、年間を通じて水温は14～15度で一定である。 「1杯飲めば1年、2杯飲めば2年長生き」と長寿のも言い伝えがあるパワースポットである。

ここは別府厳島神社の境内でもあり、その昔、辺りを開墾したものの、水不足に悩む長者が、夢のお告げ通りに弁財天を勧請すると水が湧きだしたという伝説があり、毎年9月の最初の日曜日に、別府弁天祭りが行われ、この神与の水に感謝の気持ちをこめ、念仏踊りが奉納されている。

この祭りで奉納される「別府念仏踊り」は、山口県指定の無形文化財に指定されている。

湧き水の給水所があり、容器を持参していない場合は ペットボトルやタンクが販売されている。
