Iwate Prefectural Fishery Science Museum — Attraction in Miyako

It's a small museum but well worth it for a couple of hours. It's half aquarium and half museum. You can learn a lot about the unique sanriku coastline and how people have fished there since early history. Most of the displays have information in Japanese only but you can get a free audiovisual guide which has English translations.

The attendant is very helpful and he can speak English and German. Definitely ask him for help as he has a lot of knowledge to share.

まず、施設が水族館の類ではないことを案内しておきます。 館の入口に沢山の水槽で沿岸に生息する魚を見ることは出来ますが、この施設のテーマは『岩手県の水産業』。過去に実際に使われていた漁具が展示され、現代に至るまでの様々な漁法・養殖技術が紹介されています。展示物はともかく、施設の古さが悪目立ちしている印象がありますが、貴重な資料が間近に観られる良い施設です。 常設展示室の他に特別展示室があり、季節ごとに企画展を行っています。また、缶詰作りやワカメの芯抜き作業などの体験（...

入口入ってすぐに水槽が多数設置されており 規模は小さいがその地域の魚が展示 奥の常設展では漁業に使う道具や船に関する 道具が壁一面に設置されていた

その土地の昔話的なものや 漁業に関する音声ガイダンスなんかもあり 動物や魚の剥製も展示されていました
