This beach is perfect for relaxing and swimming in crystal clear water. The ferry ride is short, only about 15 minutes. Upon arrival, there are three vendors renting umbrellas, chairs, life vests, and other beach gear. We rented an umbrella for 2,000 yen, and a staff member carried it to our spot and set it up for us, which was convenient.
We brought a small cooler with lunch, snacks, drinks, towels, sunscreen, and snorkel gear. While the water is stunningly clear, there are only a few very small coral areas with fish, so it is not ideal for snorkeling. Unfortunately, the lifeguard was aggressively whistling at anyone using a snorkel and insisting they wear a life vest, which was frustrating. We ended up just using our mask and fins.
Another downside was that the umbrella staff tended to place visitors very close together. Our umbrella ended up only about three feet away from a family of five, which made the experience less relaxing.
Overall, I would recommend visiting this island for a one-time relaxing beach day and to enjoy the beautiful water, but it is not the best spot for snorkeling or privacy.
-NO SNORKELS ALLOWED WITHOUT A VEST -There is a lifeguard on duty. The swimming section is roped off but NO NET -There are TITAN TRIGGER FISH 27+ inches towards the back of the rope. IYKYK. -You can pay to be pulled on a raft...
Read moreThis island is part touristy and part exclusive. When you get off the boat, there is a popular beach on the right with a swimming area. I don't think snorkeling is great there. To the left of the port is a long clear water beach. There is a reef a couple minutes swim out. You should see scuba boats posted at the reef. It's where the water goes from clear to a dark blue. You can walk to the end of the beach which takes about 30 mins. Then the beach turns into a rocky path. You can walk an hour and make it all the way around the island. Another snorkeling spot is past the popular beach on the right. Walk past the beach for 10 mins and you should see a reef on the right. It's only a couple minutes swim out to the reef. A lot of sea life. I swam along the reef, swam in and walked back to my bag since the current was strong. Walked to the lighthouse which was pretty boring. The showers do get crowded in the afternoon. There are restaurants if you don't bring food. The boat ride is only 15-20 mins. I think this is a...
Read moreIf you just want to get away from the main island and experience something a little different why not take a joy ride out to Minna Island. There are a few different companies that provide small tour packages out to the island. All of these leave from Motobu Port. You can sign up for various activities that include a lunch plan, jet ski, parasail, snorkel and dive trips. There is an amazing reef surrounding the island just full of Marine Life. I've seen the island many times on the way to Ieshima Island and always wondered what was out there. I'm glad I got to experience it. My only reason complaint is the fact that it was extremely overcrowded. The beach can quickly go from just your umbrella to the entire beach packed with umbrellas practically touching each other. Very little...
