I visited this place on May 3, in the middle of the long holiday which we call "Golden Week" in Japan. During this holiday, wherever you go, it's super-crowded with people, you get stuck in traffic and you have to wait for a long time in a line no matter what you do. However this place was an exception. There weren't many people there. We borrowed a small boat for a reasonable price(1,000yen/30 minutes) and went around on the lake. Water was clear. Some cherry blossoms were still blooming on the shore. We saw mountains with higher part sill covered with snow. I think if you visit this place from early summer until early fall, you can enjoy viewing beautiful roses, but I'm not sure. It takes around one and a half hour from Sendai, but I think it worth visiting...
