When I parked it didn’t look like much and I wondered if I would regret my drive here. BUT, once I understood the concept of learning about our fish and oceans in a closed down school, I was “hooked”. One of their themes was “every day is parents day” and I could definitely see families with young children spending a full day here exploring the classrooms, seeing fish close up, reading or playing in the playroom or library. For solo travelers it is a peek into what an elementary school in the 70s and 80s in Japan looked like. Chalk boards, outdated globes, sand and rock projects, it is all here. I was happy to be here for 1.5 hours but if I had some of my students from the pre school I teach English to with me, I’m sure it would have been a day filled with discoveries and surprises.
