Mohitotsuno Museum — Attraction in Nakagawa

Almost didn't go here, but glad I did. It's an old school that's been renovated into a gallery that shows works of disabled artists, but emphasizes their artistry rather than their disability. I was very moved by what I saw and one of the artists whose amazing works were being displayed at the time was catching insects outside with his mother. There's also a cafe and a shop that sells products from disabled artisans around Japan. Do not hesitate to go if you're in the area, even though it costs a bit -- 800 yen -- to enter...

A lovely little gallery in a rickety old school building. Pricey (¥1000 adults) and hardly any English available, but the shop is really good - lots of craft-y stuff from current and former exhibitors - and the mix of lesser-known artists on display is satisfying. 障害者の芸術活動に光をあてた美術館です。こちらの代表がそうした方々に発表の場をとの思いで２０余年前に開設したようです。

旧小口小学校、木造平屋建て。全て無垢材で造られており、つるつるピカピカに手入れされています。校舎の雰囲気を楽しむだけでも価値ありか思います。

今回は、「ふたりのあいだ」というテーマ展３月１１日から開催されていた最終日。混雑を予想してましたが、幸いなことにすいてました。ゆっくり見られました。

今回の作品は、本物校舎との相性抜群でした。約１時間の時間をかけましたが、作品一つ一つに力があり過ぎて見きれまませんでした。
