Asahi Kannon — Attraction in Nara

Interesting walk into nature. Few people on the trail during the morning we hike into the forest. Not technically difficult since the path was very clearly marked. A bit of uneven surface on the old stone path. I'd recommend proper footwear since it looks like the path can be quite damp because of the creek that runs alongside the trail. 通称朝日観音は、左右に地蔵菩薩、中央に弥勒菩薩の三尊仏です。東に面しているため、朝日によく映えます。 花崗岩壁に中央に弥勒菩薩、左右に地蔵菩薩の三尊仏が彫られています。弥勒菩薩は如来形立像で像高約233cm、蓮華座の上に足元を左右に開いています。胸には吉祥紋の卍が刻まれ、右手を下げ掌を前に第三指を折り、第一指先と接しており、左手は胸前に挙げて、掌を前に指を念じています。面相は穏やかであり、頭部の肉髻（にくけい）は簡略化されています。 円光背下の身光背の右側に「干時文永弐年(1265)乙丑十二月日大施主性□敬白」、左側に「願以此力悲母尊霊離苦得楽発菩提心、及以□□上生内院普□四生平等利益」と記されています。 左側に地蔵菩薩、蓮華座の立像であり、右手に錫杖、左手に宝珠をもっています。円光背下の身光背の右側に「南無当来導師梅怛隷耶仏、南無六道経法地蔵菩薩、干時文永弐年乙丑十二月日大施主性勘敬白」とあります。右側の地蔵菩薩は舟形光背を深く彫り、半肉彫り、錫杖を持たない春日本地仏で、右手は阿弥陀印相、左手は腹前に挙げています。摩崖仏は...
