It was alright. I think I had high expectations of getting perfect cherries straight from the source. I also thought there would be more cherry products for sale, but not so much.
The staff was friendly and helpful to explain the process.
To get there I went from sapporo to otaru then otaru to niki. The segment from otaru to niki and back requires a paper ticket no IC. It was a bit confusing because you can just walk over to the next train without needing to exit and i think what you do is exit at otaru, buy your ticket, and enter back in. There is a schedule for their bus to pick up and drop off, but you should probably still have your hotel call them to let them know you are going because there is no one at niki station to call for you. Read moreAbout an hour drive from Sapporo, easy to find with plenty of signs. Cherries are sweet and juicy even in Aug, and it’s not crowded when we arrived around 10am.
Cherries from different trees (or even different branches of the same tree) taste differently. Don’t forget to pick a big round one and taste it before picking the rest to make sure you will only get the best. That’s the essence of cherry picking, right?
