Only geyser I know of in Japan. Seems that us humans have done something here. Its not 100% natural but worth a stop none the less. The footbath water from the observation deck was cold. We searched the inter-web and found multiple reports of people waiting 20 minutes, 50 minutes, and 60 minutes....we waited 50 minutes, probably showed up just after it went off. The big blast of fury seemed to last about 30 seconds and then slowly died down over the next few minutes. Do it, if anything the road is a fun drive to get here...

Edit: It appears this geyser is broken. There was an earthquake a couple years ago and now it doesn’t get crazy...

"Geyser" is a term used to describe a thermal spring that erupts periodically, releasing a column of hot water and water vapor into the air. also a clean renewable energy source.♻️⛲🗻 Geothermal energy, which uses heat from the Earth's interior to release steam from underground reservoirs, could be a valuable replacement for some of the world's nuclear energy, experts say. Japan ranks third in geothermal potential, with about 23.5 gigawatts, a clean renewable energy alternative, not much explored by Japan, but which has been discussed and reassessed by environmental experts...

As of October 2024, the geyser hasn't erupted since 2019 according to the Kura Onsen receptionist. It's still cute but nothing crazy. Don't come to...
