1984 A few years back this used to be the best beach near Beppu. Others were quite dirty and neglected. I spent then a couple charming beach days here staying until dark and enjoying the beautiful scenery and the warm cozy ocean water and remember the nice relaxed atmosphere which was in absolute contrast with the rest of Japan. However upon my visit I was faced with this (see photos). No swimming, No dogs, No drones, ...., No breathing, no People😁. Well the last two just a joke. Interesting, seems I can take along my pet crock? I always thought that Orwell's 1984 is a just black parody, but in the last couple of years I am observing that it is heading directly there with full Japanese highway speed (80km/h). Moreover thay have 250y of experience aka Sakoko edict in 1635. Anyway I wish them full success for the next forever, or at least next 500 years. In the conclusion, I admit that it was completely my fault: Wise people advise that you don't return to the place that you already experienced nice moments, since the second time you most probably would experience a total disappointment. There’s also a very large community building that is mostly empty inside - there is nobody selling food, or any sort of small museum activities, but instead just a massive room with some empty tables and a few vending machines.
I’m really curious who thought it was a good idea to build this massive building with very little inside it.
It’s only my second day in Beppu, but I’m guessing there are better places than this.
I would have included some photos, but nothing was beautiful enough to make it worth...
Read moreI think it’s beautiful here normally but don’t come here now if your kids want to play in the water. You cannot go in the water. The typhoon brought up all this drift wood- I think the area is beautiful but the showers are now closed, you cannot swim - the park walk is pretty. Unfortunately my son is pretty disappointed but I tried to explain many families suffered from this typhoon and that we should be lucky. But if you’re visiting the area currently hoping to swim. This is what the beach looks...
