Impressive temple up in the hills with an equally impressive stairway. There is a free parking area located a ways downhill. Be aware that this staircase from the parking area to the temple grounds is difficult if not very healthy. Call ahead about what to do for accommodating those in wheelchairs. 長命寺

重要文化財 長命寺本堂 明治三十七年二月十八日指定 本堂は永正十三年（一五一六）の焼失後、大永 二年（一五二二）から大永四年（一五二四）にかけて再建されたことが勧進書に記されおり、寺内で現存する最古の建築である。昭和五年（1930）から昭和七年（1932）にかけて解体修理が行われた。 都行七間、楽間六間（正面二〇・四一メート ル、側面二〇・五〇メートル）、一重、入母屋 造、檜皮葺の大建築で、当初は、正面の全て、東面の正面から一間、西面の正面から三間を吹放しとし、扉や壁面を造っていなかった。外陣内部は柱が並び、荘厳である。奥の内陣には須弥理が築かれ、真中に再建当初からの厨子（重要文化財である本堂の間）があり、千手観音立 しょうかんのんりゅうぞう 像を中心に左側に聖観音立像、右側に十一面観音立像（全て重要文化財）が安置されている。 本堂は、中世の和様仏堂の好典型としても貴重な遺構であり、無駄な装飾を用いない、格調の高い建築である。 平成二十年五月 姨綺耶山 長命寺
