Seisuiji Temple — Attraction in Sado

This is an amazing location that has a ruin like feel as you enter the temple grounds, flanked by aged granite slabs and old cedar trees. As you walk into the first cedars flanked pathway you will come up into a curious temple hidden behind shrubs. Walking up stairs on the left and admiring the platform (similar to Kiyomizudera) that it's built on you will notice that the temple on top is really aged with its wood but still standing firm.

Might be worth visiting if you’ve time. Not particularly well maintained but it does have a certain grandness with the cedar tree...

読み方は「せいすいじ」です。 先年、佐渡観光のオフシーズンである一二月に参拝した折は、境内のあまりの荒れように驚きましたが、あらためて七月に参拝した結果、季節に関係なくオールシーズンで荒れていると確認できました。 京都の清水寺にならって建てられた懸造の観音堂（佐渡市の文化財指定では本堂）は遠目には悪くない威容なものの近くに寄らば荒廃が甚だしく悄然とします。仁王門、山門の屋根には落葉が堆積していて、山門に至っては草まで生えています。 寺院の機能は参道左手の本堂にうつされているようですが、こちらも人気はなく閑散としています。佐渡有数の古刹もこのままでは遠からず廃寺となりそうです。 ただ、佐渡で進む過疎化、高齢化を踏まえれば単純にお寺が悪いともなりません。文部科学省の無策にただただ腹が立ちます。千年の古刹を朽ちるにまかせている国に百年...
