Of all the tourist attractions that we went in Hokkaido, this was the only spot that disappointed us and felt like a tourist trap. Located an hour drive from Sapporo and fifteen minute drive from Jozankei main town, JF offers fruit picking as other farm activities . At the time of visit, i.e. June, it was only strawberry season and due to the limited number of strawberries, strawberry picking is only offered once a day. The entrance fees of JPY 500 per person doesn't justify the value of walking around an empty garden. Other activities, e.g., fishing, trekking, are available as add-ons but the fees don't really match the expectations and experiences.
Located about 1KM from any main roads with limited food options, we tried the pizza, among some other choices available, e.g. burgers, and found that it was only mediocre at best. We've had much better pizzas at Milk Kobo, Lake Hill Farm, and Furano Cheese Factory that represents Japanese standards and pride at pizza-making, hence this felt quite lacking.
Perhaps we've gotten there at a bad timing and it's just our pure bad luck. The site has a lot of potential and the management could do much more to elevate the customer experience. Our advise is to call the farm earlier and manage your expectations, as it's a one hour drive and that's quite an investment, financially and...
Read moreWe visit Japan a few times a year, and 99% of the time, we find the people here to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the owner of this farm falls into that rare 1% exception. We were excited to enjoy a fruit-picking experience with our 2-year-old, but it was a major letdown. Before paying, we specifically asked the staff member at the counter if there were any fruits to pick, and he assured us there were. However, that turned out to be completely untrue. Despite this, they still charged us for a group of 4+ people, handed us a map with no instructions, and sent us on our way. After wandering around the farm for 20 minutes without finding any fruit, we returned to ask for help. The same staff member, who had just seen us, suddenly changed his attitude and even asked to see our receipt, despite the fact that there were only a few visitors. The owner’s treatment of foreigners was noticeably worse compared to his friendliness toward Japanese guests. The farm itself was poorly managed, and it was clear the focus was more on the restaurant than offering a good visitor experience. Absolutely not...
