Takino Suzuran Hillside National Government Park is the only national government park in Hokkaido. In the winter, it becomes a wonderful place to play in the snow! From spring to autumn, it’s a popular site for the flower garden, large playground equipment, and the waterfalls.
Within the 400-hectare grounds there’s a colorful flower garden, large playground equipment, three waterfalls, and a forest that’s perfect for a stroll, making it a popular site for Sapporo citizens and tourists. Also open in the winter season, the park changes its name to “Takino Snow World” sometime around Christmas time.
Admission is free in the winter, and you can enjoy various types of snow play. The 250 meter long, 7-degree ski slope is perfect for a child’s first skiing experience. There are a total of six cross country skiing courses available, from the 1 & 5 km courses for beginners, the 3 & 6 km courses for intermediate, and the 10 & 16 km courses for the advanced.
The family lift ticket costs ¥150 for adults, and ¥100 for junior high school students and younger (1 ticket). My kids had a wonderful time playing with their sleds in the designated sledding area, while their older brother thoroughly enjoyed skiing on the well-maintained slopes. The resort provides an excellent balance of activities, catering to both beginners and experienced skiers.
The facilities were clean, well-organized, and easily accessible. Rental equipment was in great condition, and the process was efficient. There were also several cozy spots to warm up and relax after a fun day on the slopes.
