Sendai Astronomical Observatory — Attraction in Sendai

Visited this observatory on 2020/12/26. Was able to watch the 18:00 hrs musical show in the planetarium area. ( ¥1000) However, we were disappointed that all the other parts of this place were already closed. We did call the reception during daytime and they confirmed beforehand that the observatory will be open till 9:30 PM. This, as per our understanding, was not a clear communication at all. The one on the call didn’t mention that only a single part of the observatory (the last planetarium show at 18:00)would be open. (Which they should have informed clearly). We felt it a waste of effort because we came from the Tohoku region, made a stop at Sendai just to watch the observatory, and then go towards Tokyo.

These days,due to Covid or any other circumstances, timings do differ. This is absolutely normal. But a clear communication is expected from the reception desk at least. I give this a 2/5 rating only because of this management...

You can get free entrance if you are international student, as long as you could show your residence and student card. Unfortunately, all information displayed here in Japanese language, so you can't understand well if you're not good in...

天文台を訪れるのは、ほぼプラネタリウム鑑賞が目的と思われます。

私は幼稚園、小学校が大阪でしたがめちゃめちゃ近くに天文台があったので、当時も子供は無料だったのか？暇さえあればプラネタリウムを観に行ってました。 なのでプラネタリウムが大好き❤

仙台市天文台のプラネタリウムは最近新しくなったそうで、これまで映し出す事ができなかった小さくて遠くの星も映し出せるようになったとのことです。めちゃめちゃ期待できますね。

プラネタリウムと言ったら、今の日中の空から日が沈んで、数時間後の夜空にドワ〜っと星が、万面に映し出される瞬間がたまらないんですよね。

しかし、その後の星座のお話などは意外につまらなくて。。。 昔は、その間に若いカップルがチューしたり、寝ちゃったり、今もですが、未就学児のお子ちゃまがギャ～と泣きわめいたり。。

あ、これは私の幼い頃の思い出です🙏🙏🙏

今は、天文台職員さんのトークもそれぞれの個性があるようで、

この方の解説は星に詳しい大人用だったり、この方はダジャレ交えて面白い話だったり、

今回は星の神話が面白くてあっという間の45分間だったり。

子供用のプラネタリウムとか、いろいろあるようなので、極めたい方はトーク担当の職員さんもちゃんとチェックした方が良いかもです。

先程も記載しましたが、未就学児のお子ちゃまは、親の都合でプラネタリウム鑑賞に連れて行くのはNGと思われます。 楽しみにしてきた周りのお客様、トーク担当の職員さんにも、多少なりともご迷惑をお掛けしますので。
